"In spring of 2022 | was going to leave Russia, my homeland. But instead I bid farewell to everything normal and familiar, including my own old self."
When the war in Ukraine began in February 2022, Masha was preparing to leave her homeland, Russia, a place now altered beyond recognition. Her departure became a series of unexpected farewells: her mother passed away from cancer, her lover escaped army conscription, and every aspect of her life, including her sense of self, was unraveling. To cope with the overwhelming grief, she clung to her camera, trying to capture and make sense of it all.
Fueled by anger, Masha found refuge in an underground scene that had become a sanctuary for young Russians. In this world of counterculture and defiance, she discovered a community and a temporary escape. Her story, a fragmented kaleidoscope, reflects not only the upheaval of the times but also her own personal disintegration amidst the backdrop of global conflict.
